Hi to all on the list,
Has any of you, as a blind person had any experience with babysitting jobs? I would be greatful to hear of any experiences at all; how you found the job/s and if you had to reassure parents much?
I was seriously thinking of registering with www.findababysitter.com.au. A long shot? very likely, but I thought maybe someone has had some experience/s they could share.
Cheers! :) Current Mood: curious

Hi all, I am Lisa, 26 and from Illinois. I'm finally graduating with my bachelors majoring in criminal justice and a minor in women and gender studies. CJ was a big mistake, but I love the WGS classes. I have a black lab named Wilda who I got from the Seeing Eye in New Jersey. She and I are 2 peas in a pod. I like The L Word, Law and Order SVU, Karioke bars, partying, singing, listening to music, stones, and tarot cards. Do any of you know of any good music downloading programs that work with jaws 9? Do any of you have the new verizon phone with fully accessible speech? It's a motorola phone and I believe the speech is sold separately. Anyway if so, how much was the phone and the speech? I have an LG 8300 which I like but I'd like to be able to fully utilize my phone. Well hope to hear from you, and feel free to add me if ya want. Current Mood: okay

I currently attend a school for blind kids hear in California. Because of my eye site, and wair I used to live, they did not have any resorces for the blind, so there for, I had to be let back 3 years, *sucky!*

More make-up questions
Ok, at work coming up in a week or two I'm going to be assisting two or three high school grads in figuring out how to put on make-up. I'm planning on having one meeting where they show what they have already, and what their techniques are, and then we're gonna work through how to make it mo' betta exploring different types, shades, and application methods. I was thinking on having a couple of trial runs and such. I've found all of the standard listed articles on make-up and techniques, and have read most of them. Just thought I'd throw out the request for some personal experiences, or tips or new ideas or newer articles on the subject of make-up and visual impairments. Like I mentioned before I am half blind so I can relate to some of it, but I have good vision in my right eye so I can see well enough to put eyeliner on and to see where and how much blush I'm putting on and such. So any help would be appreciated! Thankies!!

Blindness Forums and Living in a Big City
Hi all and happy new year! Sorry I haven't posted here in awhile and I hope it's OK to post this, but I had two questions and I figured you ladies might be able to help.
1) Can you guys reccommend other forums for the blind and visually impaired, in addition to this one (it's OK if the forum is off of livejournal) This community is cool, I'm just trying to find lots of ways to network with blind and visually impaired folks from all over, so any sites you could recommend would be great!
2) So I'm coming up on graduation and realizing living here in rural Delaware isn't going to work - I'm thinking I want to move to a city (once I get some more money saved up.) but outside of Tokyo I have little city experience, so I want to hear from any of you who live in a city - any city is fine, but I'm especially wanting to hear about US cities. I feel overwhelmed when I visit New York, and it seems dangerous and confusing, yet, the kind of place I would want to live. Do you find city life dangerous? How does public transportation work for you? What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them? Thanks - any experiences and advice would be really helpful!

Hi All! Yeah, I am sort of new here so I thought I’d stop by and introduce myself. I also wanted to include a poem that has sort of had a lot of meaning for me for the longest time… and if this is the first time that you’ve seen it, maybe it will mean something for you too.
Name: Diana (Dee-ahh-nahh)
Blind or Sighted?: A VIP
Got siblings?: Yes- 1st Family, 3 brothers and 4 sisters, 2nd Family- 1 brother and 2 sisters.
Hobbies?: Reading, writing, listening to music, audio books/ magazines, watching movies, hanging out with friends and family.
Something Cool About You: The reason why I think I’m a VIP is because my mom sort of got struck by lightning when she was pregnant for me… not cool but I guess sort of unusual.
Widen My Vision
God open my eyes so I may see
And feel your presence close to me…
Give me strength for my stumbling feet
As I battle the crowd on life’s busy street,
And widen the vision of my unseeing eyes
So in passing faces I’ll recognize
Not just a stranger, unloved and unknown,
But a friend with a heart that is much like my own…
Give me perception to make me aware
That scattered profusely on life’s thoroughfare
Are the best gifts of God that we daily pass by
As we look at the world with an Unseeing Eye

This probably has already been discussed in a previous entry, so I appologize.
I didn't really want a MySpace account, because I heard it is not very excessible to JAWS users. My friend just created me one this morning, and I can edit my profile fine, but I can't figure out how to add music to my profile page.
So, I guess my question is: Do any of you have a MySpace? Have you found it very accessible? Does it do well with screen readers?
Any imput would be appreciated!

An odd issue with yahoo and Jaws
Hey all I've a question conserning yahoo messenger 7.0 and Jaws 7.1
for some odd reason I can not get them to work!
The odd thing is though, yahoo and JFW 7.0 work just fine, and that confuses me.
After all, 7.1 is the upgrade, and accourding to the help file it still *supports* yahoo, but I feel like I've downgraded jaws because it's now not allowing me to arrow through my contacts list.
I'm also unable to read through the message like I could with jaws 7.0.
Have I gone totally bonkers or is this stuff happenin' to others?
Thanks in advance for any help/imput..
X posted all over!

"feed" of interest
*mods if this isn't cool here, i won't be offended if it's deleted. Just want to spread the word about another resource some members might like.*
I can't remember how i found out about this particular blog in the first place, but AFB has a blog that is quite well done. Each month there's a new topic of interest that different staff members blog on for a while, take comments. the works. This month's topic is Dog Guide training. One of the staff members is at The Seeing Eye
getting her first dog guide and doing quite a professional and respectable job at posting on the experience. I'm not even a Seeing-Eye grad (my guide's from GDB), but it doesn't lessen the interest in the blog. They've blogged on all kinds of blindness related issues there in the past. I've been reading it for a while now, and finally got it syndicated over to LJ. So, if you're interested in reading it, just add afbblog
to your LJ friends.

I am new and here's my form.
Gender: (haha just joking! it had better be female) Memale.
Birthday: May seventh, 1983
Location (optional): Dluth Minnesota
Blind or Sighted?: Blind, though I wish I were sighted.
Got siblings?: Yes, I have one brother, who is sighted and is 21.
Hobbies?: Oh boy. Singing, writing, poetry, pottery, nature, forests, walking, hiking, all other stuff. Check out my interests in my info page if you're interested in me. I just don't feel like writing most of them here, when they're already listed there.
Something Cool About You (optional): I try my best not to judge people. I am a Christian, but am an extremely liberal one. I have had a hard life and have had lots of people judge me myself, especially my family, and I don't feel that it's right. So, I try my best not to do it.
Anyway, that's my little form. Hey, Elsje and Amanda, nice to see you both on here!
